Somatic Education with Joyce Kegeles,
based on Feldenkrais teachings
Joyce Kegeles offers hands-on, fully clothed somatic education sessions on a table, involving a manipulation that is just as profound as it is subtle and gentle.
It has broad applications, ranging from attaining easy elegance in movement, posture and breathing, to more specialized work with athletes and performing artists, to helping people with disc and joint injury, minor brain injury and stroke.
Joyce Kegeles
In 1991 Joyce graduated a four-year NJ/NY Feldenkrais training, a method of movement re-education and brain plasticity. She then devotedly attended eight further years of training in MA. Through her teaching, she inspired many students to attend the Boston area trainings to become practitioners. Along with her practice, she also hosted/produced a cable TV program, "Your Body Works," offering weekly Feldenkrais classes for the public.
She was led to this work as a natural extension of her lifelong dance background. She taught modern dance and performed with an improvisational dance theater company, and maintains an abiding passion for African dance, music and culture, inspired by African dance courses while a college dance major. She lived in Senegal through a Worcester Art Museum grant to study traditional West African dance.
After a personal loss, Joyce is grateful for this warm welcome to Mudita.
“Joyce's gentle, knowledgeable teaching has had a very positive and profound effect upon me as a brain injury survivor. Through her skillful touch, my pain significantly reduced and my restricted neck and upper back movement greatly eased.”
Lorraine K. Remby, Feldenkrais practitioner-trainee
“Joyce's positive energy and vitality complement her quiet, meticulous attention to detail in her practice. Through her work, I have achieved a balance that also affect the people I interact with.”
